"Mastering a trade takes a lot of time, knowledge, and passion. Fishing is my trade."
- Nick Yanchuck - owner / operator
Ucluelet is a small village (population about 1,800) located on the west side of Vancouver Island, northwest of the world famous Broken Group Islands which makes up part of the Pacific Rim National Park.
The name Ucluelet is a nuu-chah-nulth first nations word meaning "SAFE HARBOUR" or "SAFE LANDING PLACE".
These indigenous people have many stories and legends about living in the Ucluelet area since the world began.
Ucluelet is also the hub for commercial fishing, sportfishing, whale watching, wild life viewing, surfing, storm wathcing and tourism in general. Every year, about 1 million visitors venture west to experience the wild beauty of the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island.
Many new developments are nestled in the rain forest of the area, from high end resorts to residential subdivisions, to a brand new world class Jack Nicholaus signature golf course complete with luxury resort, marina, restaurant and executive gated subdivision. (the course is scheduled to open in Summer 2009)
Without question, Ucluelet's booming tourism based economy and the breathtaking beauty of the wild West Coast is becoming one of the most sought after holiday destinations from travellers around the globe.
