Chinook
Good salmon fishing starts about mid May, and will continue until the end of September. We will be concentrating on Chinook salmon both locally, and in offshore waters for the month's of June, July and August. This is a definite must for the avid fishermen. Barkley Sound is BC's premier location for trophy Chinook for August, and September. This is the time when our own Robertson Creek fish return by the thousands, thus guaranteeing you not only fish, but a great time. Last season the average Chinook for this time of year was 25 to 35 pounds, with many fish taken over 40 lbs, and even a couple recorded over 50 lbs. Without question this is the busiest time of year, as anglers from all over the country try to achieve to enter themselves in the infamous Tyee club.(Chinook salmon weighing 30 lbs or more)

Halibut
The ubiquitous Halibut is both migratory and a resident species. Halibut fishing in Bamfield has become very popular in the last 8 years or so. Reason being is that our success rate is excellent (aprox. 95% of my customers tagged out), and also the abundance of fish in the massive ocean they live in. Myself and my associates over the many years of fishing these waters have put a lot of time and effort into perfecting this fishery, using different methods (techniques), chart plotters, and c-maps to locate our so called "honey holes". Preferred method of fishing for these creatures of the deep is vertical jigging with 16 to 24oz lead jigs. We can be fishing anywhere from 175' to 325', so be prepared to have sore arms by the end of the day. Halibut range from 10 to 200 pounds, with many falling in the 70 pound to 80 pound range. The average Halibut where we fish the most because of it's productivity is 20 to 40 pounds, which is the best size for quality eating.

Offshore Fishing
Offshore fishing is definitely for the adventurist. The action is quick and exciting, and the success rate is outstanding. I am very confident that upon our arrival back at the dock, you have participated in some of the best offshore fishing that the West Coast has to offer. This fishery really starts to heat up about the beginning of June and will continue to be productive until the end of July. We will be concentrating on feeder Chinook salmon and Halibut. The Chinook range from 12 to 35 pounds, and the Halibut range from 15 to 100 pounds, with a real steady average of 20 to 40 pound chicken Halibut, the best tasting fish in the ocean. This is strictly an offshore fishery, which will run anywhere from 5 to 25 miles off the beach to the sandbanks and gullies that accommodate thousands of fish. These waters were once the traditional commercial fishing grounds which is no longer active, making this a phenomenal sport fishing opportunity. Limits of both species can be accomplished on a daily basis, making June and July a great time to plan your fishing adventure.
